Window into the World – photo journey with Vallari Talapatra

I feel most alive when I am immersed in observing the world around me. I have been taking snapshots in my mind before I ever had a camera. My background of being an Architect and a Landscape Designer has helped me to continue to become a keen observer and planner.

As I tell my students when I am teaching Design, a plan is worth every minute you spend on it. It is the same with pictures – I like to tell a story through each one of them and to do that I concentrate on the “right moment”. My first camera was an old Minolta-35 that my grandfather used and then I graduated to a Nikon D50 with a Tamron 28-200 lens. These days, I feel the power of an advanced camera in the palm of my hand with my iPhone 13 ProMax. I am now able to capture magical moments on my walks around Wheaton and its lovely open spaces.

When I am chasing light, I am on an adventure. Whether it is hiking through the Rockies or a night stroll in the Big Apple, I pause, soak myself in the moment and then proceed to make the composition.

Light and Time are at the heart of every picture I take.
